Octopus
Got a little bored today so thought I’d try something out. After watching countless anime and Japanese rpgs, I’ve always wanted to try and make those hot dog octopus things that parents put in bento for their kids. Didn’t seem too hard. Just gotta make sure to make the cuts properly.
So took a left over hotdog from a grill out and cut it in half.

Then just carefully cut it in half carefully, rotated it a quarter, cut again. Then very carefully cut each quarter into eighths. Tried to show it well here but was afraid it’d break if I pulled too hard.

After that I just treated it like a normal hot dog. Boiled it:

Then drained the water, added oil, and crisped up the casings:

It turned out pretty well. Actually was planning on taking some black sesame seeds to make eyes, but in the process got too hungry and just ate ‘em. I will want to try various sizes of hotdogs. Maybe some of those viennas to make cute little ones. Also wanna try and get them a little curlier. Needs more continuous, even heat. Deep frying them may get the desired effect. Also cutting the legs a little higher may help/
So yeah, it you’re wondering what this guy does with his culinary degree, now you know! Now just need to figure out how to make that omelette roll thing and I’m on my way to making an awesome bento! YEAH!
