To rekindle an old interest

I’ve been thinking about why I’ve lost most of my interest in anime and manga lately. About the best thing I can come up with is that all my friends that I used to share this interest with have gone their separate paths. From the time I was a freshman in high school till the day I graduated I was an anime freak. But once my second semester of college rolled around, and after Burney joined the army and left for that…it went downhill. My friend Brandon went to some school in Tennessee, and my other friend Jesse never enrolled while I was at Southeastern. There could also be a few other underlying factors in its decline…but I haven’t exactly given them much thought.

Still, I think that the interest is still there, and I wouldn’t mind trying to bring it back uphill again (this is probably where you guys will come in handy with suggestions). I’ve got a ton of series from back in the 90s and earlier part of this decade that I want to finish off, a few being Peacemaker, Ikki Tousen, Saiyuki, GTO and Excel Saga. If I could get these finished off, well, that’d rule! I pretty much know what I want from the older stuff…but this newer stuff is what I’m gonna have to go slow with. Too much out there to choose from it seems, and I don’t want to over-do it. D:

I’m d/ling Lucky Star as I type this…and once I get that series, I’d like to try to find some others. Carlo mentioned Spice and Wolf in his previous post, so I’ll keep that one in mind. I’m sure Rob’s got a good bit of suggestions too. We’ll see how far back up I can bring it. =P

Yeah I was the same way for about a year. Didn’t really get back into anime till Haruhi came out and that lead to me watching another then another and so on. And yeah there are a ton of new stuff out there and I find it hard to keep up without a regular news source. I’m sure Rob can do it just fine though xP

    Hehe.

Right off the bat of stuff you NEED to watch that has finished:

    Lupin III
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu)
    Clannad
    Beck
    Cowboy Bebop
    FLCL
    Fate/stay night
    Fullmetal Alchemist
    Hayate no Gotoku!
    Minami-ke
    Ouran High School Host Club
    Samurai Champloo
    Shakugan no Shana
    Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
NHK ni Yokoso! (Welcome to the NHK)
    Zero Tsukaima

    That stuff comprises alot of the cult anime over the past few years. you’ll see references to them alot. Lucky Star will confuse the hell out of you with some stuff if you don’t know a few things D;

A new season of anime comes out every 13 weeks or so. This season’s good stuff:

    Kyouran Kazoku Nikki Soul Eater
    Mnemosyne
Kamen no Maid Guy <-translates to: Mask of the Maid Guy
Zettai Karen Children <-translates to: Absolutely Lovely Children
Nijuu-Mensou no Musume <-translates to The Daughter of Twnety-Faces
Toshokan Sensou <-translates to: Library War

That stuff is the absolutely must see of this season. KKn is …..nonsensical, and hilarious. Soul Eater is a great comedic action show with an interesting idea and animation. Mnemosyne is just hardcore in animation and plot. KnMG is hilarious, plain and simple. ZKC is a 52ep show that is being subbed by one of my friend’s groups, and it’s pretty fun. NMnM is the new Lupin III if you ever saw that. TS is just plain cool.

    I’M HELPFUL! YES!

Now it’s at this point you’re probably thinking:

“Rob…..wtf man, you have too much free time.”

Alrighty man, thanks. I’ll bookmark that site.

Glad you know what all the good stuff out there is, cause I’d be like a mosquito in a nudist colony. I wouldn’t know where to start. xD

To add something in there, a “slice of life” comedy that is about an anime/manga club in a college in Tokyo. Genshiken (And it’s second season, Genshiken 2) will help you understand some of the culture a bit better too :P
