jVLT

I’m not too sure if you guys are going to wind up taking any language classes or gonna try to learn any on your own, but I thought perhaps this would be an interesting little app to share with you nontheless. As you know, I’m studying Russian on my own and I like to go out and find anything that can help. One day I was browsing around on Google looking for a flash card program to use in my studies, and I came across this. It’s called jVLT (java Vocabulary Learning Tool). It’s a really small program written in java, so it runs on practically anything (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, ect.) and it’s open source, so you can download and use it free. You basically enter the words into jVLT and it will save them, then you can write example sentences with those words and translate them, and even take quizzes on the words. You can also add images and sounds to each word for pronunciation purposes. Definitely something worth checking out in my book. :3

Just thought I’d put it up for anyone who’s in a language class or going to be in one…or if you’re taking the self-taught approach like me. =P
