I want to say that there is a way, but unfortunately I don’t know how to go about it. I’m thinking you could transfer your stuff to a flash drive using DOS, but I’ve never really done that before myself. Whenever I had problems such as this, I’d always reformat. Perhaps if you happen to have any Linux distros around, you could try booting them up and running them from the CD and transfer your stuff out that way.
Sorry mate, I don’t know what else to tell you. Carlo might know more. D:

What I’m gonna do probably is install another hard drive with an OS on it, open my computer that way, tr ansfer my fiels from the harddrive onto an external harddrive, reformat my harddrive, and retransfer the fiels. Bugger. I might actually go buy a legal copy of windows xp pro now at least :P

Yeah both the ways you guys discussed works. Like Joey said, you can just use a linux distro allows you to run it off a CD or the like. Knoppix is the one people usually prefer for stuff like this. Then you can just locate the folders you wanna keep and transfer them to an external harddrive or burn them to a DVD/CD.
Or like you said Rob, you can just get another HD and load Windows onto that, then do the aforementioned transfer to external/DVD. Those’d be the simplest ways to do it.
And from what I can tell, you probably got a virus that corrupted the OS cause that filepath contains all the important files =P So STOP LOOKING AT PORN SITES xO
If you wanna, try inserting the setup CD after you get your files. That way if it deletes your files, you’ll at least have them backed up and if it fixes the problem, you get to keep all your current settings.
For future purposes, I would buy a huge harddrive to store all your music, anime, etc so in case your OS tanks again you don’t have to worry about losing them. That turns it from a major annoyance only to a minor one since all you have to do is reinstall the OS and your programs which usually just takes a day. S’what I like to do. Plus harddrives are getting cheaper and cheaper. If you’ve got cash to burn, you can buy a 1TB drive which’re just $200. Freakin’ bargain.
And I don’t think you really need to buy a legit copy of XP. Unless you got them from a shady P2P service (kazaa, limewire, etc), illegal copies won’t mess up your computer. Plus if you don’t like that copy anymore, just hit up one of the more reliable torrent sites and download a newer and updated version of XP. S’what I’m basically doing with Vista till the price goes down.
