Blu-Ray wins the format war.

Toshiba Press Release

It would seem that Toshiba has pulled out the further creation and building of HDD software. They will still support the HDD hardware/software that is out now, but they’re not gonna make anymore.

Toshiba were part of the DVD Forum, the group that backed the creation of HDD software and hardware. Also members were Microsoft and Time-Warner.

Guess that means that the 360 better start thinking of a Blu-Ray expansion port for it’s readers :P

Lewls old news dude O= I knew that yesterday :3

Stupid uber nerd prowess aside, I’m a little bummed. I wanted HD-DVD to win though I’ve got no concrete reason why. Just seemed like the better format despite being smaller in size. So yeah I’m a little sad to see it go, but hey that’s the way the ball bounces. And thankfully I didn’t have the money to actually buy a HD-DVD player and movies. I feel sorry for all those that did.
I’m looking forward to see how Blu-ray is going to evolve over the coming decade. It’s always fun to see a new format being slowly accepted by the mass public. I was there when DVD was up and coming, but was still too young to really get what was going on. So I’m gonna have fun seeing Blu-ray work it’s way into the mainstream. That is unless HD downloads take over and forces all HD discs out of the market =P

Haha…me and Carlo got into a discussion about this last night. I had been hearing that HDD wasn’t doing so good, but wasn’t aware that it completely lost. Glad I didn’t go out and buy a player for it. x3

I guess it will be interesting to see how BR seeps into the mainstream. I remember when DVDs were new, I had to wait for a looong time before I could buy a player for ‘em. But then, I didn’t have a steady-paying job at the time either. If BR players can come down to around maybe $250 – $400, then maybe I’ll pick one up eventually. =o
