Learning Русский!

I don’t recall how it came about, but I’ve begun to study the Russian language. It may have been triggered by a dread of going to my Spanish class. I don’t really like that class (note: not the instructor or fellow classmates, just the class and the material in general). The only reason I’ve been taking Spanish is because I’ve had to have a foreign language in order to graduate from high school and move up towards my degree. Sadly, Spanish was the only one available. I’ve never been interested in the Spanish language at all, even if it’s the most practical language to learn around here… it’s just boring to me. I would say it’s difficult, but that’s only because I don’t care enough about it to put forth enough effort to grasp the material. I’d much rather learn something else, even if I have to learn it on my own. I’m going to learn a second language if it freaking kills me, but it won’t be Spanish. I’ve had over three years worth and I still can’t speak a damn lick of it. I’ve always fancied learning German, Russian, Japanese and Norwegian more than anything anyway. So far, I gotta say that Russian is a bit easier than Spanish is. Then again, I haven’t got to the meat of it yet. o=

I figured a good starting point would be the alphabet, so I looked up the Russian alphabet Wednesday after school and found a flash soundboard that has both the printed and hand-written versions of each letter, plus an audible pronunciation of each when clicked. Had to go to class that night, and mom and I got there a bit early, so I decided to take a stroll over to the library and see if they had anything I could use to help me learn more about the language. Lo and behold, I found (with the librarian’s help of course) a Berlitz Essential Russian book and checked it out. I’ve been memorizing the “printed” (printed on webpages, in books, magazines, newspapers, etc.) letters in the alphabet with this book. Still need to practice the hand-written letters and stress on the vowels though. Overall it’s coming along quite nicely. Quite exciting! ^_^

До свидания until next time dudes! ;3

Neato burrito dude. It’s always fun to learn a language with something different from the Latin alphabet. Good luck to you dude :3

Russian and Polish are two languages I’ve been tempted to try takinmg up. Both are part of my geneology, and along with Japanese, seem to hve really interesting ways of using the language.

@ Карло: Thanks man! I’m gonna try to stick with it and master it if I can.

@ Роб: You should do it dude. Russian is among some of the least taught languages in America. It’d definitely be something you’d be proud of if you learned it (plus we could converse back and forth with it). It’s always good to go down a road less traveled. I can supply you with a few links if you’re interested. =D
